MEET OUR NEW STAFF
AMY JOA - RETENTION COORDINATOR

Amy joins the Center for Multicultural Initiatives as a new Retention Coordinator. Ms. Joa was born and raised in metro-Detroit, and from a young age had a passion for education. She began her professional career as an elementary school teacher, then went on to earn her Master's degree in Student Affairs. Her love of learning, student development, and social justice lead her to working in Higher Education. She enjoys spending time with her husband and children, watching sports, and reading.

AFRICAN AMERICAN CELEBRATION MONTH 2016

Join us for Preserving Our Heritage through the many outstanding events during African American Celebration Month (AACM) 2016.

African American Celebration 2016 begins Monday, January 18 with the Keeper of the Dream Awards Celebration at 11:30 a.m. in the Banquet Rooms, Oakland Center. The month long celebration concludes on Thursday, February 18 at 11:30 a.m. with our Closing Ceremony: 90's Showcase in the Fireside Lounge, Oakland Center.

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
STUDENT LEADER RECRUITMENT

Student Leader Recruitment is the joint effort of Orientation and New Student Programs (ONSP), the Center of Multicultural Initiatives (CMI) and Pre-College Programs (PCP). The goal of Student Leader Recruitment is to streamline three recruiting and hiring processes for students interested in attaining a leadership position within ONSP, CMI and PCP. If you are interested in becoming an Orientation Group Leader, CMI Peer Mentor, CORE Ambassador, or a Pre-College Student Mentor, you'll only have to go through one recruitment process.

The application deadline is Friday, January 29, 2016 by 5 p.m. so don't wait!

If you are interested in applying you must attend the Info Share on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 from 5 - 6 p.m. in the Oakland Room, Oakland Center.

2016 WILSON AND HUMAN RELATIONS AWARDS
It is time to begin the selection process for the 2016 Matilda R. Wilson/Alfred G. Wilson and Human Relations Award! The Wilson Awards were established in 1965 to recognize one female and one male graduating senior who have contributed as scholars, leaders, and responsible citizens to the Oakland University community. For more information or to access the nomination forms, visit http://www.oakland.edu/dean_awards. All nominations must be returned by Monday, February 15, 2016, to the Dean of Students Office, 144 Oakland Center.
